Souvlaki Tzatziki & Naan

The depths of Iowa’s winters make me put away my grill momentarily, but that doesn’t stop me from eating some of my summer favorites this time of year. Our Greek flavored Pork Souvlaki is one of my all-time favorites for both a quick grilled dinner in the summer and a weekend meal during the cold of Winter. The fact that the grill is in storage gives me the opportunity to cook a slightly more elaborate meal in the kitchen using some ingredients that are readily on hand.

The Souvlaki is extremely easy to cook inside, I brown mine in a skillet on the stove top for 2 minutes per side until they are golden brown and then finish them in a preheated 375 degree oven for 15 minutes. While the roast in the oven you have a chance to throw together a nice side salad or simply chase your 3 year old around the house.

I like to serve the Souvlaki thinly sliced topped with our freshly made Tzatziki sauce on a flat bread. This time of year, I like to take the opportunity to make my own with naan being our family favorite. (click here for a super easy recipe for naan) But any store-bought flat bread will let this combination shine.

Don’t be afraid to buy your grilling favorites and try them inside this time of year, we are more than happy to share our cooking tips and tricks with you when you stop into Old Station Craft Meats!

Bon Apetit!
