Lenters Cattle Company

Sioux Center, IA

Lenters Cattle Company was started by Nick Lenters (owner of Old Station Craft Meats) and his brother Adam Lenters. The Lenters Cattle Company herd was the inspiration for the creation of Old Station Craft Meats.

The two brothers partnered in the acquisition of a herd of Lowline Angus cattle. Lowline Angus are 100% Angus cattle, but are smaller in size than today’s conventional beef. These cattle are similar in size to what cattle were prior to the 1970s. The Lenters brothers chose the breed because of how efficient they are in producing beef on a strictly grass diet. In addition, the brothers appreciated the sized of steaks that these cattle produced. Over the years, beef packers have been pushing farmers to raise larger and larger cattle which has resulted in enormous steaks. Nick believes that the best steaks are smaller in diameter because they can be cut thicker without becoming enormous, which lends the steak to be being more easily cooked to the perfect doneness.
